Pythagoras, Socrates, Plato, Descartes, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin – since pre-Biblical times, people have sought the deeper meaning to life.
And what of today? What would be a Philosophy for today?
BE IN THE MOMENT
Most of us spend time reminiscing on the past or looking forward to the future. But there is only the Now. The past is a memory, the future but a vision. To be fully in the moment, fully present dispels dissatisfaction and unrest.
DO WHAT MAKES YOUR HEART SING
The most important thing is to be happy. In fact you have a duty to be happy, for your own health and for the energy that you give off to everybody else. The only person you can change is you.
It’s all about raising your vibration, becoming all that you can be.
SEE GOD IN EVERYONE
Treat every person as if they were God himself (or herself, or Allah or whatever name you use for the Divine). No matter how difficult it is to recognise the Divinity in the other person, like the Good Samaritan, always remember that, like you, they are a personification of the All.
USE THE MIRROR CONCEPT
Whatever you see in others is reflected from you – the good and the not so good! If you find someone’s behaviour particularly difficult, challenging, it does not do any harm to ask if there is any part of you that behaves that way. This practice helps us to be non-judgemental and to continually seek to improve and grow.
TREAD THE TIGHTROPE CONSIOUSLY
We tread a narrow path, choosing all the time between ‘right and wrong’. For example when to be courageous and speak up for what is right, and when to hold our own counsel, not out of cowardice but because our opinion would not help at that point. Tread consciously for every mark will show.
BE IN THE MOMENT
Most of us spend time reminiscing on the past or looking forward to the future. But there is only the Now. The past is a memory, the future but a vision. To be fully in the moment, fully present dispels dissatisfaction and unrest.
FOLLOW YOUR BLISS
We owe it to ourselves to claim our natural birthright and be happy, yet most people never attain happiness. Exchange ‘should do’ for ‘could do’ and Do What makes your Heart Sing!
