To move into and to hold one single posture and be totally mindful of what you are doing, to the exclusion of everything else is to do T'ai Chi - although you are wholly aware of your surroundings and any activity therein you remain untouched by it and concentrate only on moving with perfect stillness. These pure T'ai Chi moments are equivalent to the 'zone' experienced by athletes and artists in moments of peak expression. They are the key to unlocking your potential".
T’ai Chi is the world’s most popular form of health-maintenance, now practised by millions of people around the globe.
It is traditionally thought to have originated from the Wu Tang system of internal styles as opposed to the Shao Lin temple hard styles, although Chan San Feng, the legendary creator of T’ai Chi was a Shao Lin master who applied the principles he’d witnessed within nature intuitively to his fighting/martial ability.
There are many theories about the origins of T’ai Chi, but legend states that Chan San Feng who lived in the Sung Dynasty (AD 960-1279), was one day watching a battle between a bird and a snake ten times its size and was captivated by the snake’s twisting and recoiling movements which eventually left the bird so exhausted, that it flew off to search for easier prey ...… in that moment, the art of T’ai Chi was said to be born. |
